I'm not a "techie", is this something I can do? If you know how to get a video tape or disc out of a video camera and understand what copy-and-paste is - yes you can. When my wife first used a fax machine, I could see she had a problem. When I asked her what it was, she said that it was broken. She knew it was broken because EVERY time she put in the piece of paper, it came right out again! - And my wife can upload videos to this site! Yes, it's easy. Do I need a fancy computer to upload my video file? No. You can even use an internet cafe (if it will allow you to enter your disc with file on it). If you have a video camera that writes direct to disc then you are already 90% there. The software we use here will allow you to go to a specified webpage on our site and simply click a button. Then you will be able to browse through the computer you are on and select the necessary file. It doesn't get any easier! What should I put on the video? Simply stand in front of your camera and pitch to it AS IF it was an agent/producer/investor. Remember anyone on the web can come across your pitch and may decide to make your dream come true - so make it REAL! Do I need one of those fancy Hi-definition megabucks cameras? NO. A simple 30-60 dollar webcam will do the job if necessary - and go straight into your computer (therefore is in a digital format already). Just remember that the resolution MAY not be as good, however the sound will be more than good enough. A simple tip is to have as much light on you as possible. That way the camera will not be struggling to get resolution and the image will look better. How long will it be before my pitch is up online? If the coffee has been flowing then you might get lucky and have it the same day. In general though we suggest it will be within TWO WORKING DAYS. Are there any monthly hosting fees associated with this? NO. Our accountants don't like to work too hard and said give it away for a single payment - that way we save more trees! You have no monthly fees, no maintenance charges - OR web design costs. We ARE considering changing our accounting company, but until that time we are only charging the modest single fee. This may change! Scripts have been stolen in the past but they are VERY much the exception rather than the rule. If a studio is going to put between 50 - 150 millions dollars into ANY project, their lawyers go over EVERYTHING with a fine tooth comb! If there is any suggestion that the person touting the script is not the actual owner, the financial knee-jerk reaction is to say NEXT! We are not qualified to give legal advice but common sense would suggest you should always create a dated paper-trail if someone is interested in viewing your script or taking your pitch further. ALSO - it is very hard for someone to come along and say the idea is theirs if you can show that you already had your pitch online BEFORE they went shopping! ALSO - when you submit your pitch to us, specify the three options that are available to you:
How much should I tell in my pitch? Enough to get an investor excited enough to ask you for the script! Always leave them wanting more - and you do have OTHER scripts. How should I market my pitch after it is online? There are so many excellent avenues for you now. The best is to call any producer or agent and ask permission to send them a link via email. Most producers are so jaded by everyone and his dog hitting on them with their scripts, that receiving 'a link' is very non-invasive - not to mention that it is cutting-edge and intriguing to them. Besides enabling them to view your dream pitch when THEY are relaxed, they are bound to mention it to other people in the industry as a novelty. AND they can view the pitch as often as they like and REALLY get it! What is the process flowline to get my pitch up? Hone your pitch to get it EXACTLY the way you want - and record it (video, audio or text). Then have the file on your computer that is connected to the internet. Then make payment to Pitch My Scripts. After making payment you will be taken to a page on this site where you will be able to upload your file and information directly FROM your computer TO our site. It is as simple as clicking a button on our page that will allow you to select the file on YOUR computer. We will then process your video and put it up online, sending you the exact link of where to send your lucky investors! Is there a time limit before I have to upload my pitch? No. Many people do not have their pitches ready and NEED time to improve them. You can upload your dream pitch when you are ready. After you have made payment, your 'slot' will always remain available for the time you are ready to upload. Will my pitches be available for the public or only private viewing? The choice is yours. When you upload your pitch you can specify if you WANT the search engines and the general public to find your pitch through a web search, or you can specify that you want it private. In the latter case we would supply a link that ONLY if you direct people to it, will it become visible. You also have the option of having it password protected. Can I put the video pitch on MY website? Yes you can. You will need to supply us with the URL that you would like the video to appear on and we will supply the requisite code for you to paste into your page. |
